What does your family do for Easter? What are your family’s traditions? You likely have childhood memories that come through loud and clear. My mom had a chocolate business out of our home and I can still taste all those yummy favorites: peanut butter eggs, nutty chocolate bars, and of course the big coconut bunny!
Resurrection Eggs
One of the traditions that I have enjoyed as a parent is using the tool of the Resurrection Eggs to slow down and talk about the story of Jesus leading up to Easter. As a Christian, I am trying to plan and put as much emphasis on Easter as I do Christmas. It’s difficult! Our society runs past it pretty fast and with all the spring activities (and great weather!) I forget to slow down.
One Special Easter
It was a few years ago that we went to a Good Friday service and my family soaked in the story of Jesus dying on the cross for our sins. It was a moving service and (although tasteful) a graphic story was told. After service, we did a couple Resurrection Eggs because we were behind. That was a special night for one of our daughters! It was the combination of what she heard at service and what she heard at home that made her want to make the decision to ask Jesus into her heart. She recognized she was a sinner (and still is!) and that she needed to surrender to Christ to spend eternity in Heaven with God. It was a moving experience for all of us!
Your Traditions
Whatever your tradition, be intentional about what is important and take time to talk about it with those who matter most. A family walk, time at the park, a big dinner feast, church service, extended family, baskets full of goodies? We wish you a Happy Easter!
